Kindness Conference

Columbus, OH
The Junto Hotel

July 18, 20268:00am-5:00pm

This event is for people who want to help build kind community in Columbus, Ohio.

Across society, we are witnessing rising social isolation, chronic illness, distrust, burnout, economic instability and job loss, and screen and tech-driven disconnection. People are living alone, working remotely, struggling silently, and losing the opportunities that help human beings experience genuine connection. Many families are strained, most institutions are overwhelmed, and so many people experience increasingly unmanageable conditions.

In times of strain, human beings naturally turn toward family and close community for support, care, protection, and belonging. Strong relationships help people survive illness, hardship, grief, unemployment, disability, and social change.  Many families that have strived to stay a supportive unit are being stressed beyond their capacities to be present for each other. For many individuals, family is either absent, unsafe, negligent, abusive, or harmful in other ways.

When families and individuals do not have adequate support––professional services alone are not enough. Social services matter. Support programs matter. Healthcare matters. Therapy matters. But no commercial service or institution can replace genuine human love, care, kindness, non-harming family, and community.

How do we build a kind local community strong enough to help people survive the future and find belonging in the years ahead? What can we do?
This conference invites anybody longing for more human kindness, lacking kind community, and who could use more help. We also extend a purposeful invitation to people who have experienced profound un-kindness — survivors of neglect, abuse, abandonment, violence, and other extreme experiences.

Together at the conference, we can explore:

•    Building a local kindness-based community
•    Meeting together and supporting each other to reduce isolation through recurring in-person connection
•    Creating shared reality through meaningful relationships
•    Forming mutual aid and support networks, referral networks, sharing resources and knowledge, and long-term community connections
•    Practicing universal design for people with all types of disabilities
•    Healing from complex and relational trauma
•    And continue building kindness-focused community-based infrastructure to make kindness accessible for more people

We are Offering Continuing Education Credits for Mental Health Professionals

What is the cost to attend?

While it is often unfortunate reality, finances should not prevent people from kindness or community. We don’t want financial difficulties to prevent anyone from attending this opportunity. Ticketing for this conference is donation-based. Due to the reality of our venue and catering costs, the suggested donation is $110 per person. No one will be turned away for lack of funds, and it is okay to donate less if you cannot afford the cost. For those who can contribute more than the suggested donation, your generosity helps support abuse survivors in active abuse conditions.

Donations are tax-deductible and will support emergency hardship funds for extreme abuse survivors exiting active abuse conditions.

Seeking volunteers for conference planning and doing!

We have a venue booked for July 18th to host a conference for anybody needing more kindness in their life, especially complex trauma survivors and pro-survivors. We are seeking people in Ohio who want to plan/do this together. We need people to personally identify and help generate invites to those who would benefit, help organize the conference itself, directly work the conference (such as registration, A/V, tech, planning and spreading the word, etc.), and sponsor CEs for those wanting/needing professional CEs for attendance. Note, announcement of our conference will be by word of mouth and invite only for safety.

To volunteer please email info@kindhelp.org and let us know how you’d like to volunteer!
